The students will develop these traits by waiting their turn quietly so everyone can be heard. The students will develop ways to make sure everyone is included in the game to make the group successful.
S.T.A.R. Options:
Class Clap, counting, and rhythms. Teacher or one student lead. When the whole class sounds as one, try tow, then three, etc…
Math Counting (Multiples) Partner Counting. Clapping as a group to desired number. Add a partner and alternate count. Change partners.
Play + Connect Activity
This is a simple game that will get players listening and paying attention to one another. Players should form a circle. One player begins by saying, “zoom!” while quickly turning their head to a neighbor, passing along the zoom. This player must then do the same, passing the zoom along to another player. Do this as quickly as possible until all players have participated.
Breathing Exercise Options:
Belly Breathing
5 belly breaths with mouth closed and hands on belly. Goal is to get students to breathe through nose and use their diaphragm. There should be very little movement of the chest and the belly should move in and out. Can do several rounds of this activity.
Accordion Breathing
5 belly breaths with mouth closed and hands on sides of lower ribs. Goal is to get students to breathe through nose and use their diaphragm. There should be very little movement of the chest and the students should feel movement outward on the inhale. Can do several rounds of this activity.
Learn + Grow Activity
Instead of saying “zoom”, have the students say letters, numbers, or name things in a category.
Reflect Activity
Did you wait your turn and were you ready to go? How did it feel when someone was not ready to go?
Variations
Challenge all to be ready to go when its their turn.
