Be Proactive
The students will work on honesty by leaving the game when they make a mistake and show sensitivity when someone does. They will allow others to hear the directions and show support for those that are successful.
S.T.A.R. Options:
Class Clap, counting, and rhythms. Teacher or one student lead. When the whole class sounds as one, try tow, then three, etc…
Math Counting (Multiples) Partner Counting. Clapping as a group to desired number. Add a partner and alternate count. Change partners.
Play + Connect Activity
Ask everyone in your group to stand to one side of a long line marked on the ground. Encourage people to spread themselves evenly along the line, within a foot. Identify one side of the line as ‘Salt’ and the other as ‘Pepper’. Loudly announce a series of calls such as “SALT, PEPPER, SALT, SALT...” Immediately upon each call, each person must jump to the correct side. If an individual makes an error, example jumps to the wrong side of the line, they are eliminated. Each person aims to stay in the game for as long as possible. The last person remaining wins. Variations: Form pairs, and instruct all moves must be made with a partner (often facing each other and holding hands). If one or both make a mistake (an error), then both are eliminated.
Breathing Exercise Options:
Belly Breathing
5 belly breaths with mouth closed and hands on belly. Goal is to get students to breathe through nose and use their diaphragm. There should be very little movement of the chest and the belly should move in and out. Can do several rounds of this activity.
Accordion Breathing
5 belly breaths with mouth closed and hands on sides of lower ribs. Goal is to get students to breathe through nose and use their diaphragm. There should be very little movement of the chest and the students should feel movement outward on the inhale. Can do several rounds of this activity.
Learn + Grow Activity
Use synonyms and antonyms to represent a side of the rope or line. To make it really tricky use prime and composite numbers. Good way to review words as well.
Reflect Activity
How do you handle failure? Do you exit the game when you made a mistake without a reminder?
Variations
Have a student call out the commands.
